Bring out the vintage and retro homeware for National Cream Tea Day

I live and  work in Devon so how could I not celebrate this day? What’s your ideal place to enjoy a cream tea? Small tea room or perhaps a lavish afternoon tea at the Ritz? Whilst you are debating that idea, picture me today in the shop, having a scone with jam and cream delivered to me from one of the scrumptious cafes and restaurants we have in town.

At home, If I am having friends or family around, I like to lay the table with vintage and retro homewares on top of a pretty cotton tablecloth or perhaps a braided rug runner down the middle of the table.

A cream tea needs to be served with proper tea as far as I am concerned. Much as I like pretty china teapots, my favourite has to be a traditional brown betty. These retro teapots take me back to my childhood. I’m always on the hunt for any type of vintage or retro homeware and china for this very reason.

On a summers day, you can’t beat eating a cream tea outdoors in your garden. Surround yourself with beautiful blooms and your favourite garden decor. Nothing could be more quintessentially British! Don't forget to check out my blog on Recreating Source for the Goose style in your home for ideas on getting the vintage look.

Finally, the most important question.. cream on top or under the jam? Be careful how you reply to this one. Your decision is likely to be incorrect depending on whether you live in Devon or Cornwall! All I will say is that I had a cream tea in Somerset once, and they served it with whipped cream. I’m sorry Somerset but that is just wrong!
