5 Reasons Why You Won’t Find a Black Friday Sale at Source for the Goose - (And Why That’s a Good Thing)

Every year, as November rolls around, the world seems to tumble head-first into Black Friday fever — flashing banners, frantic discounts, and a rush to buy things simply because they’re “on offer.”
Here at Source for the Goose, things look a little different.

I’ve always believed that home should feel personal, thoughtful, and full of pieces you genuinely love. And that’s why you won’t see me taking part in Black Friday. Instead, I stay true to the values that shape everything I curate for the shop.

Here are five reasons why:

1. One Off Pieces Can’t Be Mass Discounted

Much of what I source — from vintage finds to hand-painted furniture and curated accessories — is unique. There’s only one of each.
When an item is chosen, it’s chosen with care, and reducing it to a “doorbuster deal” just doesn’t fit the spirit of what it is.

These pieces deserve to be treasured, not rushed.

2. Fair Pricing All Year Round

I price everything in the shop as fairly as I can from the moment it arrives.
There’s no need for sudden “discounts” in November — just honest, thoughtful pricing all year round.

I’d rather items be accessible whenever you’re ready to find them, rather than relying on a single weekend of sales.

3. Slow, Thoughtful Shopping Beats the Frenzy

Source for the Goose has always been about inspiration — giving you ideas for creating a warm, characterful home or finding a gift with meaning.
Black Friday encourages quick decisions and impulse buys.
I prefer slow moments, browsing calmly, and choosing pieces you’ll love for years.

There’s no pressure here… and I quite like it that way.

4. Supporting Small Means Supporting Values

When you shop with me — whether in my little shop in North Devon or online — you’re supporting a small independent business that puts quality, creativity, and personal service first.

Skipping Black Friday isn’t about resisting trends; it’s about holding onto the values that keep small shops unique.

5. Christmas Should Feel Special, Not Stressful

This is my favourite time of year in the shop — the windows, the styling, the sparkle, the cosy gifts.
Black Friday’s frantic pace just doesn’t fit.
Instead, I focus on helping you find thoughtful presents, decorating ideas, and those special pieces that make your home feel inviting for the season.

That feels far more festive than any flash sale.
